This is my Tandy 1100FD laptop I picked up at the local Value Village for $17.99. Everything works perfectly except for the battery, but meh, I can do without it. The only thing I’ve really done with it is clean a bunch of the gunk off of it and hack together a new power cord. I’m hoping to find a use for it in a project in the future (Possibly to program microcontrollers).

Filed Under (NDI HC-1400) by matthack

This is my NDI HC-1400 ham radio that I picked up at my local Value Village for 20 bucks. It didn’t come with a power supply, or antenna, or microphone, so I had to scavenge around to find some replacements. I found a cheapo antenna on ebay for around $20 and then got a BNC adapter for it at my local electronics supply store. While I was there I also picked up a Motorola 14V 10A power supply for about $35. The microphone took me months to find, everything on ebay was too expensive or didn’t work, and I had no idea where to find amateur radio parts around here. Luckily my friend Martin from high school’s dad also dabbled in the fine art of Ham and he gave me his Cobra CA-73. Now that I had all the parts I had no idea how to work the damn thing, so I scoured the Internet for data sheets or schematics. Eventually I got in contact with a fine old chap from England who promply emailed me a pdf full of everything I needed. I eventually got the antenna hooked up and the radio powered, but I still can’t figure out how to wire my microphone up properly. If anyone knows how to do it, please leave a comment :)
